		<description>I think its more than just the techs you are looking at,
an example being download players: I&#039;ve got Divx, BBC and now Veho and a host of others occupying my browser space and running concurrently - most in beta.
Another example being the virtual 3D world avatars that are becoming available.

It would be interesting to find out how long it takes someone to bring out one application that can interact with a group of applications that have a similar function. And is this phenomenon to do with market saturation number of users or number of competitors?</description>

I would agree about the IM stuff if it wasn&#039;t so incredibly useful. I vote (and use) GTalk most of all - least bloated, as you say at least tipping a hat to something vaguely open, and nice functionality too...
